Unique Jewelry
Some of the most sought after items, now and throughout
history are pieces of unique jewelry. The appeal of having a one of
kind piece is inherent in everyone. An original piece is always valued
over production pieces, often even when the price of materials of a
production piece is much greater than the original. Because a piece
is original, the price of materials becomes less of a factor than the
design of the piece.
Unique jewelry can be created by anyone. A popular craft for children
is to make necklaces out of macaroni noodles, popcorn and other small
objects. Each piece is unique and treasured by its owner. Creating custom
bracelets with colorful beads and letters then trading them for other
handmade bracelets is popular in rave and club culture. Often unique
pieces can be found in thrift stores, garage sales and especially at
art and craft fairs.
Larger retailers often have artisans that can create custom pieces
of unique jewelry. The pieces are often commissioned and built to the
purchaser’s specifications, and often the gemstones or materials
have been passed down through generations or were acquired separately.
Many artists also create one of a kind pieces, with the cost of materials
sponsored by a jeweler, or with cheaper materials. The range of unique
pieces is wide, they can be expensive and heavy or light and cheap and
anything in between.
